Gabala is a string of flashy new hotels and a burgeoning ski resort spread up into foothills of some glorious forested mountains. Gabala is the most ancient city of Azerbaijan. Before 1991 it was known as Kutkashen, but after Azerbaijan's independence, was renamed in honour of the much older city of Gabala.
Gabala was ancient capital of Caucasian Albania. Archaeological evidence indicates that it functioned as capital of Caucasian Albania as early as 4th century BC. Ruins of the ancient town are situated 15 km from regional center, allocated on territory between Garachay and Jourluchay rivers.
During another fascinating journey you will see picturesque and spectacular corners of Gabala region, admire beauty of cascade waterfall "Yeddi Gozal", attractive panorama of the Greater Caucasus Mountains, rolling on lift of summer and winter zone of mountain recreation "Tufandag".
