TOP-3 Museum of Modern Art in Baku

A museum is a cultural part of society in any country. The more interesting museums, the more varied the rest.

Contemporary art is very diverse in its execution. These are various paintings, sculptures, photographs and compositions.

Baku was no exception and there are various museums of modern art:

1.       Museum of modern art.

The museum has a large collection of paintings and sculptures by Azerbaijani artists. The building itself is made in white. There are no corners in the halls, and the walls are tilted at different angles. The museum itself has a bookstore, cafe, restaurant, book and video room.

In the museum, the exhibition hall is occupied by the Metropolis Gallery. The works of contemporary Azerbaijani artists and sculptors such as Nadir Kasumov, Omar Eldarov, Eldar Mammadov, Altai Sadikh-zade and others are exhibited here.

The museum is located at 5 Yusif Safarov Street.

Visiting days: Tuesday-Sunday, from 11:00 to 21:00

2.       Museum Center.

The building was built in 1960 according to the project of the Azerbaijani architect Hasan Majidov. The museum center hosts exhibitions of paintings and sculptures by Azerbaijani authors. Foreign artists exhibit their work.

The museum center hosted an exhibition by German photographer Klaus Vikrat, Bulgarian artist Emil Stoychev and master of American photography Tuba Oztekin Koimen.

The museum center is located at 49 Neftchilar Avenue.

Opening hours: from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 18:00.

3.       Qiz Qalasi Gallery.

The gallery was founded in 1999 by Azerbaijani artist Salhab Mammadov near the Maiden’s Tower. Initially, this was his private workshop, from which he made a private exhibition space for his fellow artists.

Here are paintings and sculptures of Azerbaijani authors, such as Altai Hadzhiev, Nigar Babaeva, Farid Rasulov, Khalid Safarova, Fagan Gasimov, Vagif Rakhmanov, Sanan Jafarov and others.

In addition, exhibitions of foreign authors from England, Russia, Germany, Georgia, France and other countries are held.
